Great article and how good to get the perspective of someone from so far away. I agree very much with Neil. It's easy to forget what a breathtakingly beautiful area we live in and how amazing it is to be surrounded by so much history. When you come again do go to Nant clwyd y dre in Ruthin, a restored medieval house. Come and say hi to us too! We are at www.gwenoldy.com

A lovely write up of my home. I have lived and taught in the Vale of Clwyd all of my adult life. It has everything that you say and much more. The hills to the east are a designated "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" dotted with Iron Age settlements and magnificent man made defences. For walkers there is everything including nature reserves, short rambles and the long distance Offa's Dyke path, from Prestatyn to South Wales. There are excellent cycle tracks and mountain bike routes. In my youth I spent most of my spare time rock climbing, canoeing and caving around the Vale. We love it so much that we intend to stay here, even when we retire, in a few years time.
