Great story! I wish bell tents and camping in general were more popular here in the US. Ican totally relate to your story as I enjoy my 5m bell tent immensely! And in campgrounds it sure is eye catching. I love the sense of space inside and that I can stand up in a good percentage of the space - the lower areas make for great space to store gear. I would say the best part is how well it stands up to storms. It has rained hard and for hours every time we camped in our bell so far. We only had wetness inside on the first storm. After that, regardless of how the storm raged and wind blew, we were dry! Best tent ever.

It's been great! As they claim, it becomes more waterproof as time goes by--we were caught in an awful storm in Montauk last fall and it performed great! And the fact that it's made of breathable material truly is a game changer. And then there's the aesthetic factor. As long as you are driving up to the campsite, I can't recommend a bell tent highly enough.

Great post!. Any updates on this tent's performance? I've got two young kids, and I'm considering a bell tent as an alternative to the squat, domed, nylon tents I, and everyone else uses, and this post confirmed a lot of my suspicions -- that maybe our grandparents knew a few things - maybe the most important things - about camping that we've forgotten.

The tent is called a bell tent, but it's a lot like a teepee in shape. We have the 4m. Depending on how big your kiddos are, a family of five could fit in there, but if you want more room to maneuver I might size up to the 5m.

The tent that you slept in, would you consider that a teepee tent? My next question , what is the best tent you would recommend for a family of 5.
