[Note: This list was updated in January 2017.]
As I grew Flung’s Instagram following from just 300 in December 2015 to over 7,500 today, I gave myself a crash course in how to use hashtags to my greatest advantage–using them not only to gain followers and engagement, but to attract high quality followers and engagement (if you look at Flung’s account, you’ll notice that we have higher engagement than many accounts with tens of thousands of followers).
As the months wore on, I kept a running list of the most effective ones. And now, what I learned the hard way, we’re offering to you in the form of this handy reference sheet: a list of the 81 Essential Travel Hashtags for Instagram.
(You can follow Flung on Instagram here.)
This list will help you grow your followers, increase engagement, and gain exposure for your account.
I’ve found that using a combination of hashtags with a large following and those that cater to a niche results in the highest engagement, and both types of hashtags are included in this list.
Please see below for what else this list does and does not include:
INCLUDED:
-Hashtags managed by the most important travel magazines and publications.
-Hashtags managed by accounts that select images from the hashtag feed to repost.
-Hashtags organized by category, including Cities, Road Trips, Hotels, and more.
NOT INCLUDED:
-Location-specific hashtags. It’s always useful to research hashtags that are relevant to the place you are posting about, and add those to the mix. That said, this is a list of travel hashtags that work anywhere in the world.
-The most obvious travel hashtags like #travel, #instatravel, #wanderlust, etc. In fact, I don’t find them to be essential at all in the quest to grow an Instagram presence.
For a limited time, we’re offering the list for free to those who sign up for the Flung newsletter. Sign up below and get the list!
